Why these three, together

Each of these treatments works well on its own. Layered in one appointment, they compound: the RF microneedling handpiece and the CO2 laser both create controlled micro-injuries that the body answers with new collagen, and the channels they open give Rejuran® Healer a direct path into the skin rather than sitting on the surface.

The first two steps run on one platform — the Cutera Secret PRO, which carries both an RF microneedling handpiece and a fractional CO2 handpiece. That is what makes treating at two different depths in a single sitting practical rather than a matter of moving between machines.

The sequence matters, and so does the depth and density of each pass. Your provider sets both according to your skin type, your history, and how much downtime you can accommodate.

01

RF microneedling · Secret PRO

Insulated needles pass through the surface and release radiofrequency energy at depth. You get the mechanical collagen trigger of needling plus controlled heat in the dermis, which is what adds a tightening effect needling alone does not produce.

02

Gentle CO2 · Secret PRO

Fractional CO2 energy treats a fraction of the surface at a time, leaving healthy tissue between columns to speed recovery. Gentler settings mean less downtime than traditional ablative resurfacing.

03

Rejuran® Healer

A polynucleotide treatment derived from purified salmon DNA, applied while the skin is at its most receptive. Patients know it as the "salmon DNA" step — it supports hydration and skin quality during healing.

What it may help improve

This combination is built for patients who want a meaningful change in skin quality rather than a single-concern fix. It may help reduce the appearance of:

  • Fine lines and early wrinkles
  • Acne scarring and pitted texture
  • Enlarged or visible pores
  • Uneven tone and dullness
  • Sun damage and pigmentation
  • Rough or uneven texture
  • Mild laxity and crepiness
  • Overall skin hydration and quality

Your provider will assess your skin and confirm whether this protocol, or a different one, is the better route for your goals.

What to expect

Consultation and skin assessment

Your provider reviews your skin, your medical history, and your goals, then confirms whether this combination is appropriate and how aggressive each step should be.

Cleansing and numbing

The treatment area is cleansed and a topical numbing product is applied. Plan for this to add time to the front of your appointment.

The three-step treatment

Microneedling, then gentle CO2 resurfacing, then the Rejuran® Healer while the channels are still open — performed in sequence in a single visit.

Aftercare and follow-up

You'll leave with specific instructions for the first several days, product guidance, and a recommended interval for your next session if you're doing the series.

Total appointment time varies with the area treated and the settings chosen for your skin.

Downtime and recovery

Expect redness, warmth, tightness, and a sandpaper-like texture in the first days — closer to a moderate sunburn than to a peel. Swelling is common on day one and two. Most patients plan around three to five social-downtime days, though this varies with the settings used.

Follow your aftercare precisely: no picking or exfoliating, no heat or heavy sweating for the window your provider specifies, and daily sun protection. Sun exposure during healing is the single most common cause of a disappointing result.

How many sessions will I need?

Some patients are satisfied after one. Most who are treating acne scarring, sun damage, or more established texture change do better across a series of three, spaced several weeks apart. Your provider will recommend an interval based on how your skin responds to the first session.

Who is a candidate?

This protocol suits adults in good general health who want to improve skin quality, texture, and scarring without surgery, and who can accommodate a few days of visible healing.

Treatment may need to be modified, postponed, or avoided if you:

  • Have an active skin infection, cold sore, or open wound
  • Have an active acne flare in the treatment area
  • Are prone to keloid or hypertrophic scarring
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have used isotretinoin recently
  • Have a history of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Take medication that affects healing or photosensitivity
  • Have a condition that interferes with wound healing

Deeper skin tones can be treated, but require a tailored approach and often a priming regimen beforehand. Your provider will review your history and determine what is appropriate for you.

Dr. Elise Grenier, MD

Board Certified Aesthetic & Family Medicine Physician

Dr. Grenier practices on a simple premise: patients would rather get ahead of their health than react to it. She opened The G Spa San Francisco to extend that thinking into aesthetics — building wellness and skin health services alongside her medical practice rather than treating them as separate concerns.

That background is why a protocol like this one is sequenced rather than sold as a menu of add-ons. Depth, laser settings, and candidacy are medical decisions, and they're made as such.

A San Francisco native, she spends her time outside the clinic outdoors, with her family, reading, and baking.

Empowering women and men with the best medical care.

Why The G Spa San Francisco

  • Physician-owned and physician-designed protocols
  • Devices and treatments chosen for evidence, not novelty
  • A plan built around your skin type, history, and downtime tolerance
  • Clear preparation and aftercare instructions, in writing

I turned 40 and came in with a couple of concerns from deeper wrinkles, dullness, redness and texture… Dr Grenier helped me come up with a plan to tackle all of these with a gentle reasonable approach… I could see improvements from the first procedure which was a CO2 gentle laser.

Questions, answered

What device do you use?
The Cutera Secret PRO. It carries both an RF microneedling handpiece and a fractional CO2 handpiece on one platform, with adjustable needle depth and scanning settings, so your provider can treat at more than one depth in a single session and dial the intensity to the downtime you can accommodate. We wrote more about it on our blog.
Why combine all three in one appointment?
RF microneedling and CO2 both create controlled channels in the skin. Applying Rejuran® Healer immediately afterward, while those channels are still open, gives it a direct route in. Doing the three separately means three appointments, three recoveries, and a less receptive canvas for the booster.
What exactly is Rejuran® Healer?
A polynucleotide booster made from purified, fragmented salmon DNA — which is why patients often call it the salmon DNA treatment. Polynucleotides are used to support skin hydration and quality during the healing process. Your provider can walk you through how it's used in your specific protocol at consultation.
Does it hurt?
A topical numbing product is applied beforehand. Most patients describe heat, pressure, and a prickling sensation rather than sharp pain. Tell your provider if you're uncomfortable at any point — settings can be adjusted during the session.
How much downtime should I plan for?
Most patients plan for three to five days of visible redness, swelling, and rough texture, with the first forty-eight hours being the most noticeable. If you have an event, book well ahead of it rather than just after.
When will I see results?
Skin often looks brighter once the initial healing settles. The collagen-driven change — texture, firmness, scarring — develops over the following weeks and continues building after each session in a series.
How long do results last?
That depends on your age, skin, sun exposure, skincare, and lifestyle. Collagen continues to decline with age regardless of treatment, so most patients maintain with periodic sessions rather than treating once and stopping.
Can I wear makeup afterward?
Not immediately. Your provider will tell you exactly when it's safe to resume makeup, actives, and your usual routine. Applying products too early is a common cause of irritation and prolonged redness.
Is this safe for deeper skin tones?
It can be, with adjusted settings and often a priming regimen beforehand to reduce the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. This is exactly what an in-person assessment is for — it isn't a decision to make from a web page.
Can I finance it?
Yes. We accept Cherry and PatientFi in addition to all major credit and debit cards and cash. Both financing options can be applied to the series.
